Pub Food with Reviews, Maps and Links to their websites

The Magnum Restaurant and Bar

1 Albany St, Edinburgh EH1 3PY, UK – 0131 557 4366

Lovely little bar, with a cosy ambiance and good drinks. The only criticism I have is that several pints we ordered recently were served in a hot glass (straight from the washer?) Otherwise a great little pub!

A bit disappointed as the roast chicken was poor and the burger mediocre. The chicken had none of the goodness of a crisp roasted bird and instead tasted more like bland poached chicken. The kale, zucchini and pea soup to start was quite good. Service was good. The ambiance was a bit bland but functional.

Pub Crawl

176/1 Rose St, Edinburgh EH2 4BA, UK – 0131 510 7575

It’s great way to end your Edinburgh visit. An fun way to make new friends while travelling.. Historic pubs, 5 different bars in one night, big thanks to Rory who was a fab host :)

Best night in Edinburgh! Pub crawl bar tour was amazing he kept the group upbeat all night, free entry to 5 bars and discounted drinks really makes it an affordable nightout in Edinburgh! Already planned another night and recommended to friends!

Kilderkin

67 Canongate, Edinburgh EH8 8BT, UK – 0131 556 2101

Great food and a very nice atmosphere. The wait staff should be plussed up during the Fringe b/c it took awhile to get out of there. Overall, very nice place to grab a pint or eat a meal. The waiter went the extra mile to box up my bread, which was awesome.

Great pub. Good beer, great whisky selection. I had a great burger. Love this place. Album covers on the wall.

Hendersons Vegan Restaurant

25c Thistle St, Edinburgh EH2 1DX, UK – 0131 225 2605

We were surprised that a place with the name ‘Henderson’s Vegan Restaurant ‘ wasn’t vegan but vegetarian with some vegan options. It was a lot harder then we thought as The difference wasn’t clearly marked and I ended up with dairy in all my dishes. With that being said everything tasted very good ( after I picked out the cheese). The pizza was a bit soggy, but he deserts were incredible. They were very helpful with all our allergies although they had to look at a book to tell us what had nuts and what didn’t ( not marked well). But it was very busy and very popular. I would go back but if you are Vegan beware going in that you’ll have to be extra careful.

Great environment and good food, variety changes often and service is quick and personable. Veggie haggis was great. Would definitely come back!

L'Escargot Bleu Restaurant

56 Broughton St, Edinburgh EH1 3SA, UK – 0131 557 1600

Great service. Staff are polite and attentive. Food is great quality and reasonably priced

Well worth the visit. The oysters are the best I have ever tasted

The Wee Restaurant - Edinburgh

61 Frederick St, Edinburgh EH2 1LH, UK – 0131 225 7983

I ate dinner here last night and everything I had was outstanding! I came in without a reservation and was lucky to get a seat (I recommend making a reservation). I started with the mussels which were tender and had a delicious broth. My second course was the pork. Honestly it was the most tender and flavorful pork I've eaten. Third course was the pineapple tarte (I was cautioned it takes 15-20 minutes) it was well worth the wait. It had some toasted coconut ice cream which was great! While I was waiting for my dessert they served me a couple chocolates made in house which were also amazing! I highly recommend eating here. The servers were efficient and personable. Everything about my experience was 5 star!

2nd visit...enjoyed very much. ..service very good. .food great. ..one little criticism. ..husband had cheese board nicely presented but only one little bit cheese. .last time got bit more cheese. .which was a good helping. .this time not so much. .

Chinese Restaurants serving the Edinburgh area

Rendezvous Chinese Restaurant

10a Queensferry St, Edinburgh EH2 4PG, UK – 0131 225 2023

My uncle owned this restaurant in the early/mid 1990s, my grandparents lived in one of the top floor flats too, it's a place that's near and dear to my heart so obviously I'm going to be a bit biased! Fast forward to October 2017 and not much has changed. The atmosphere is nice and the food is still great

Great food. Service can be a little slow during busy times, unappealing entrance and toilets, but you come here for the food, which is always decent. Salted spicy ribs are exquisite.

China Palace Restaurant

27 Bernard St, Edinburgh EH6 6SH, UK – 0800 389 0489

Good food, good staff, good prices, good music, nice decoration, ... Highly recommended for people looking for an enjoyable evening with Chinese food! On a side note. The toilets do lack this flair though.

Good meal, quality of food high though I've had better, was there with party of six, service was prompt we all had our dishes served at the same time all where hot. Large selection of dishes on menu, would happy go again.

Ping On Chinese Restaurant

26-32 Deanhaugh St, Edinburgh EH4 1LY, UK – 0131 332 3621

Friendly staff - nice food, prompt service. Busy. I recommend it

Good choice of menu to suit all taste buds from mild to hot. Very attentive staff make you feel welcome.

Indian Restaurants and takeaways in or near Edinburgh

Mintleaf

28 Bernard St, Edinburgh EH6 6PP, UK – 0131 555 5552

I have been there for the first time tonight . The atmosphere was quite cosy and warm. The landlady was really friendly and so helpful to make the right choice on the menu, she came over to explain what I could eat and looked very carefully after my intolerances. Was a great night with excellent food and service. I must say thank you to her and to Melissa, the waitress, that was so attentive and professional for this unique experience.

Really glad we stopped by this place. The food was amazing and the staff were amazing and very helpful Especially Melissa who was lovely and very attentive, this is now my favourite restraunt in Edinburgh

Zest

15 N St Andrew St, Edinburgh EH2 1HJ, UK – 0131 556 5028

Delicious chicken and lamb cooked on the tandoor. Friendly staff and very generous portions! They also accept tastecard which is well worth using here!

Had an excellent meal for 6 whilst at the fringe. Great poppadoms, crispy garlic naan breads and probably the best Madras I've tasted. Freindly and attentive staff. Highly recommended for curry lovers.

Mother India's Cafe

3-5 Infirmary St, Edinburgh EH1 1LT, UK – 0131 524 9801

Indian tapas--what an amazing concept. We have been here twice now and have found delicious food to eat, good wine to drink and all at a very affordable price. I highly recommend this place.

One of the best Indian meals I have ever had, tapas approach makes it easy to try a good range of different dishes. Good atmosphere and prompt service. Will most definately go back.

Italian Pasta and Pizza Restaurants

La Lanterna

83 Hanover St, Edinburgh EH2 1EE, UK – 0131 226 3090

Decent food. Good menu. Friendly staff

Tasty place and very friendly stuff

Contini

103 George St, Edinburgh EH2 3ES, UK – 0131 225 1550

A great restaurant set in a beautifully decorated room. We had pre-booked a special offer lunch and on arrival we were shown to our table where the appropriate menus for our deal had already been set out. Despite the competitive price we had a good choice of dishes to choose from. Service was generally prompt and polite. The food was delicious and hot. There was a slight delay in paying the bill but, that aside, it was a very pleasant experience. We will be going back.

The place is really beautiful and Central, the food is properly prepared and presented, the waiters and waitress are really nice BUT: 1) the menu is overpriced for that kind of italian dishes, and portions are small . 2)The menu prices are misleading, because the pasta is usually a main course (80/90g of pasta plus sauce) but in Contini, the pasta is served like a spanish tapas portion, which is small, like 50/60 g, but with the price of a normal sized dish of pasta (8/9£) so it is too expensive for the quantities. 3)Other thing: the option of "2 courses for 15£" is only available till 7pm but on the menu is not stated. Beverages are really overpriced. Water at 4.50£ with no other cheaper options is a bit too much , not honest at all.

Vittoria on the Bridge

19 George IV Bridge, Edinburgh EH1 1EN, UK – 0131 225 1740

Great location though on the slightly pricey side. Well presented, clean toilet and fast if not a little brusque service. Food good though the Pesto pasta doesn't work with tomato sauce (see Martini in Bath for best Pesto pasta). Made a change to the usual massive chain Italian style restaurant which make up the bulk of the Edinburgh set.

Very busy. Booking is probably essential Fridays and Saturdays. Food was OK. Garlic bread was just slices of white bread drowned in olive oil. Couldn't touch it. Hot chocolate was warm at best. Service was fast. Pricey for mediocre food

Vegetarian or Vegan Restaurants

Hendersons Salad Table Restaurant

94 Hanover St, Edinburgh EH2 1DR, UK – 0131 225 2131

Really lovely homemade food, well presented and varied. Staff were helpful. Very quaint place - though can be a tad small for space! Came to £19 for two meals (hot main and one side) and a coffee. Perhaps a tad expensive for £2.50 per scoop of salad! Lots of customers testament to good food.

If you are a tourist craving fresh vegetables (or anything that isn't pub food), this will fit the bill. I was so happy to get a salad I almost cried. Very tasty and healthy. Two scoops filled me up, but limited my options; I'll definitely go back if I have the opportunity to try some of the other salads.

David Bann

56-58 St Mary's St, Edinburgh EH1 1SX, UK – 0131 556 5888

The brunch menu is a good price with hearty portions. They cooked my eggs perfectly, just as I'd requested, and the rest of the plate was good but just a little too salty for my taste. This was a very filling plate of food which kept me full all afternoon. The fresh mint tea I ordered was full of fresh mint and was very good. I also liked that their regular pitcher of water had some fresh fruit and mint leaves, which made it unique and gave it a nice light refreshing flavor.

One of the best vegetarian restaurants I've ever been to. The food was unique, delicious and reasonably priced. Would definitely go back if I'm in Edinburgh again.

Hendersons Vegan Restaurant

25c Thistle St, Edinburgh EH2 1DX, UK – 0131 225 2605

Wine Bars and Cocktail Bars

Madogs Cocktail Bar

38-38A George St, Edinburgh EH2 2LE, UK – 0131 225 3408

Was in Madogs for the first time in a few years on Friday night (6th Oct) and it was like old times. The music was fantastic, brilliant DJ! (He wasn't at all bothered by our constant requests). We danced till throwing out time and had the best night ever. Will be back soon....same DJ please!

Great bar with good sized cocktails an great music

Divino Enoteca Italian Restaurant & Wine Bar

5 Merchant St, Edinburgh EH1 2QD, UK – 0131 225 1770

Sat in the 'Enoteca' part of the restaurant which is dubbed as the less fancy more relaxed bit but in reality seemed the nicest bit. However you will need to take quite a walk up two flights of stairs (or lift) to the toilet. Decor and atmosphere was great and the staff very friendly and attentive. The main dishes we had were tasty. Olives were a bit disappointing though and the wine tasting flight felt overpriced for fairly average wine. The by-the-glass wine menu is however great so I'd recommend you have 2-3 small glasses of wine that you know you'll like, or at the waiter's recommendation.

Whenever we are in Edinburgh we eat at Divino (says it all!) at least once with family and friends. The food is superb, the menu varied, with wine by the bottle -- many very reasonably priced -- or by the glass from cruvenet-style taps for a minimum 10£ voucher that can buy multiple glasses. Service and ambiance are top notch but seemingly effortless. It's not unpretentious but still extremely friendly. There are several restaurants in the building so make sure your at the bottom-most at 5 Merchant St., though entry is convenient from the sister restaurant, Vittoria, on George IV Bridge. Reservations recommended.

Itchycoo Bar & Kitchen

The Royal Mile, Edinburgh EH1, UK – 0131 473 6517

Great place to eat and drink. Lovely friendly staff. Well presented food but could do with a little more selection. Best place to eat in this area.

Really good burgers and friendly staff. Much calmer than the pubs on the other side of the street. A bit cold sitting directly under an airconditioner, bring a scarf. Really recommend it!!!
