B+B Edinburgh

3 Rothesay Terrace, Edinburgh EH3 7RY, UK – 0131 225 5084

Great hotel with a tasty breakfast. Well located for shopping and eating, although a little walk to the old town

This is a beautiful place to stay. The breakfast was proper and amazing. The staff was gracious and helpful. We had a very early check-out to make a flight out . The staff helped us with scheduling a taxi and even pack my wife and I a take-away breakfast so that we wouldn't be hungry before our flight. I will always remember this place and hope to stay here every time I visit Edinburgh.

Village Hotel Edinburgh

Village Hotel, 140 Crewe Rd S, Edinburgh EH4 2NY, UK – 0131 297 7111

This hotel is so relaxed and informal. The staff are so lovely, helpful and friendly. The bedrooms are clean and very comfortable. The reception area is bright and has comfortable seating areas where you can relax with a drink. The bar is also good for food and relaxing with friends and family. You can also watch sports here. The restaurant serves a wonderful breakfast and superb evening meals. They also have an amazing carvery on a Sunday afternoon. The hotel also has a large well equipped gym, swimming pool, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi as well as offering beauty treatments in the spa. I would totally recommend this anyone visiting Edinburgh!

I stayed here for a single night in September 2017, but I wish it had been a week or two! This was far and away one of the most pleasant hotel experiences I've ever had. The lobby and building were clean and spacious, the restaurants and bar were fantastic (and I happened to be there for pub trivia night), and the room was clean and modern (and quiet and comfortable). I was so impressed that I will be looking for the Village Hotel brand elsewhere when I travel! offers competitive rates for any type of hotel, from small independent hotels to a five star luxury ones. The site is available in 24 languages and offers over 71000 hotels in 71 countries. Could be useful for you. There are of course several such sites.

Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

The Scran and Scallie

1 Comely Bank Rd, Stockbridge, Edinburgh EH4 1DT, UK – 0131 332 6281

Excellent food. Had brunch and dinner there, really high quality, while being able to bring small kids. Best eggs royale in town. But you do pay for the quality. Significantly more expensive than similar places but also very good and great staff. So fair enough!

Food and atmosphere was brilliant. Great for people with young children and they made it special for my daughter. Service was fabulous!! Highly recommended. Try the ham and eggs!

The Doric

15-16 Market St, Edinburgh EH1 1DE, UK – 0131 225 1084

Nice setting with good homemade fayre. Try the whisky tasters and great British food choices, tasty and freshly cooked. Wonderful, friendly and helpful staff in a great atmosphere above the pub.

Amazing food. The service is great but it does take some time to get your food...but it's worth it. The steak and haggis balls are amazing!

The Queens Arms

49 Frederick St, Edinburgh EH2 1EP, UK – 0131 225 1045

Great place for a chilled beer. As a cider lover, it breaks my heart that their selection of ciders is so limited. That aside, the ambience is great and the fish and chips are damn tasty too! Oh and it's an awesome spot to watch football games!

One of my favourite pubs in Edinburgh. Great decoration, fantastic pub food, good selection of drinks. Can get a busy at the weekend or for a Sports event - consider booking if you wish to eat there with a large group.

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

Bed & Breakfast Accommodation plus Guesthouses

Browns Bed and Breakfast

5 McDonald Rd, Edinburgh EH7 4LX, UK – 0131 557 5935

We stayed here for 2 nights and it was wonderful. Everything that is needed when away from home can be found in one of Marion's lovely rooms. The bed was so comfortable and breakfast was superb. Marion went out of her way to make make our stay a memorable one. Perfectly situated, close to everything. Thank you Browns B and B.

I (single, tourist) spent four nights there during the last days of the Festival Fringe 2017. And if you also look for a comfortable, small and nice Bed & Breakfast to stay at while being not too far away from downtown and some supermarkets, busses and the tram, then I really recommend "Browns Bed and Breakfast". First the good things: I got a very nice room with a very comfortable bed and pretty much many other things I would need (including tea making facilities). I was satisfied with the room and bath room in general. The couple running the B&B is very friendly and open to their guests, they also help out with information if you wanna know about nearest shops etc. Or if you need a cab for getting somewhere, they can book one for you. The small hallway provides you with brochures and other information material about exploring Edinburgh. The breakfast options were fine enough for me. I'm a vegetarian so I cannot tell you anything about the offered meat and fish options. But I still had enough vegetarian breakfast items like toast with jam, eggs (boiled or scrambled), mushrooms, tomatoes, yoghurt, cereals, fruits... It's rather a small breakfast buffet compared to hotel breakfast buffets but still, there might be something for any taste. Also the items tasted very fine. You get a key to leave and return to your room whenever you like, like after you got "home" after staying out late because of the festival or something. What I didn't like that much: Even though I like the general location of the B&B, the whole thing is on the ground-floor (not the breakfast room though, this is underground). So your room might be right at the street (like my room). This can be trouble to your sleep because of chatting people walking by at night, simple cars or sirens. So I strongly recommend taking earplugs just in case. Also, as I said, the breakfast room is underground which allows no view outside or something. There is no radio or music playing there which CAN be good but I found it terribly quiet there. And people like parents with small children/babies (small children won't be taken as guests) or people unable to walk stairs (breakfast room is downstairs without a lift) should better look for other places to stay at. Bottom line: Myself I had a good time there and would book there again. When it comes to prices I only can compare to what I read online at other B&Bs websites and in their offers but they looked fair to me (96 GBP/night). And with the service and option there I was satisfied.

Carmichael Bed and Breakfast

11 Ravelston Dykes, Edinburgh EH4 3EA, UK – 0131 467 1128

Nice host. Nice house. Not too far from town. Quiet.

Friendly, lovely room, walking distance to the town centre, highly recommended :)

Moray Place Bed and Breakfast Edinburgh

11 Moray Pl, Edinburgh EH3 6DT, UK – 0131 226 4997

Very nice, specially the Suite on the top floor. Amazing breakfast. Host very very gentle

Great location and peaceful atmosphere.

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!

The Mews Cottage

The Mews is the cosiest cottage to stay in chilly wild wet and windy Edinburgh. It feels like my second home every time I stay here

Craigwell Cottage, Edinburgh

16 Nether Craigwell, Calton Road, Edinburgh EH8 8DR, UK – 0131 476 4011

We have stayed here every other year for eight years it is a beutyfull cottage it is so well presented spotless and decorated to a very high standard New heating this year very nice you can see sue the owner takes pride in this gem of a place and she is so welcoming when you arrive if you are thinking of booking this place then don't hesitate. ( as long it's not when we want it ) If it's Edinburgh you want then you must stay here location location it's brill for old part and new part it deserves a big 5 star ( sue if your wondering who this is it's the Welsh four rugby surporters booked. Under Simon roll on 2019 )

Superb location within walking distance of many/most of the tourist 'must sees'. Easily accessed by road, rail or bus. Offers all that you'll need for a self-catered stay, long or short, plus a few thoughtful extras. Quiet at night (passing traffic ceases pretty early), a cosy hideaway at the end of a day exploring Edinburgh and beyond. the place is clean and well maintained. The owner, Susan, was efficient and friendly with excellent communications via email, as well as offering local knowledge when we arrived and making herself readily available if required. A good experience in a beautiful City.

64 Frederick St, Edinburgh EH2 1LN, UK – 0131 208 1005

Very central apartments, but ours was a bit worn down. The kitchen specifically was a bit out of time, and the windows don't Protect from the cold outside (can be limited with increased heating though), but the most problematic part was the sleeping sofa. Eventually our daughter slept on the couch as it was. Communication with Jon was very good, and we enjoyed our stay overall, but if you look for something polished, this is probably not the place to be.

I would highly recommend booking an apartment with this company. Excellent communication throughout the booking process. Very accommodating overall. Jon allowed us early check in and late check out at no extra cost. We stayed in the Cranston street apartment which was in the perfect location, and was immaculately clean. Will definitely book with this company again. Thank you!

Campsites and Caravan Parks

Edinburgh Caravan Club Site

35-37 Marine Dr, Edinburgh EH4 5EN, UK – 0843 504 8772

Had a very enjoyable stay, the pitch we had was very spacious. The noise from the aeroplanes was no where near as bad as we had anticipated in fact we found them really interesting. The walk along the nearby sea front was great for the dog and us and the bus service close by was very good for getting into the city. The wardens were really friendly and helpful and the site and facilities were on or above The Caravan and Motor home standards. Thoroughly recommend this site.

Good site with excellent facilities. Staff are brilliant and v helpful advising local services and tourist items. Helped me a lot with health issues and eventual paramedic intervention. . Would recommend to anyone.
